Wolfpack 50, Owls 6
AMANDA PARK — Jace Anderson teamed up with Robert Rodriguez on three scoring passes in the first half as Twin Valley trounced Mary M. Knight in the Wolfpack’s regular-season finale on a blustery day Saturday at Amanda Park.
Rodriguez caught TD passes from Anderson of 37, 31 and 7 yards. Ironically, those were his only receptions of the contest.
With four players sitting out the first half due to what Twin Valley coach Mike Mitchell described as “personnel issues,” the heavily favored Wolfpack was a bit slow to get off the mark in a game played in rain and wind. The last of Anderson’s scoring passes to Rodriguez, followed by Jacob Gardiner’s conversion run, gave Twin Valley a 20-0 halftime lead.
The Wolfpack (6-2) broke it open in the third quarter. Kobe Kalama, installed at quarterback threw TD passes of 8 yards to Josiah Olson and 54 yards to Julio Silva. Then Silva returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown for a 42-0 lead.
That presumably instituted the 40-point running-clock mercy rule. But the scoreboard clock was rendered inoperable by a power outage, forcing the officials to keep time on the field for the remainder of the game.
Kalama’s 15-yard TD pass to Anderson in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring. Mary M. Knight scored in the final two minutes of the third quarter.
Gardiner had two conversions and Jeff Diggle a third for Twin Valley.
Anderson and Kalama combined to complete 14-of-23 passes for 255 yards and five touchdowns. Silva had 99 yards receiving.
“We thought we would have to run the ball in that type of weather, but both quarterbacks were amazing,” Mitchell said. “They were spot on with their passing.”
Rodriguez, Will Fultz and Chayton Johnson were among the Wolfpack’s top tacklers.
Twin Valley will be idle next week before entering the tri-district playoffs next month.
