Lyle/Wishram boys beat Klickitat "by about 20" according to L/W Head Coach. This game was cancelled last week due to Klickitat not having enough boys due to illness. The game was so close due to L/W trying different defenses.

This was THE BEST High School Basketball game I can remember watching. Great defense by both teams with amazing offensive sets at times. Take a look at the box score- no team was ahead by more than 5 the whole game. In my opinion the Cougars lost the game at the end of the second quarter- had the ball with no shot clock and put up a shot with 9 secs left. SSC got the rebound and got 2 just as the horn went off. ONE SHOT!!!!! (still shaking head)
SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN 52, LYLE-WISHRAM 44 (OT): At Lyle, Brandon Broersma’s basket with three seconds left in regulation tied the game for Sunnyside Christian and sent the contest into overtime, and the Knights outscored Lyle-Wishram 10-2 in the extra period to capture the Greater Columbia 1B League regular-season championship outright. The Knights had previously clinched at least a tie for the title.
Broersma finished with 23 points for the Knights, while Gabe Montoya led the Cougars with 15 points and 12 rebounds. District tournament play begins Friday at Mabton.
SUNNYSIDE CHRISTIAN — Martin 3, D. Broersma 6, Brouwer 2, Hoff 0, Gamboa 0, Brant Bosma 14, Brandon Broersma 23, Puterbaugh 2, Scheentra 2.

Lyle-Wishram had an easy time disposing of Klickitat last night. I had a running clock about 4 minutes into the 3rd Q. Sorry but I didn't pay attention to the final score.
District V is now set: Sunnyside Christian Lyle-Wishram Bickleton Trout Lake-Glenwood The double elimination begins Friday.

ZILLAH, Wash. — When you’ve got a team that’s been through as many postseason battles as Sunnyside Christian’s boys have, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see them pull out a nail-biting win.
What was out of the ordinary in Friday’s Greater Columbia 1B district championship game was that a pair of players with little experience in those pressure-packed moments helped make the difference.
Sophomores Darren Broersma and Joel Martin combined for nearly half of Sunnyside Christian’s 12 fourth-quarter points, and Broersma also came up with several big rebounds and was a key defensive presence to help the Knights hold off a determined Lyle-Wishram team 45-40 at Zillah Middle School.
“Darren came up big, and Joel’s free throw at the end was big,” said guard Brant Bosma, who led the Knights with 11 points and eight rebounds. “We just came together and took care of the ball at the end.”
Third-ranked Sunnyside Christian (21-2) advances to the Class 1B regionals. Lyle-Wishram still has another shot to advance, with the Cougars traveling to Elma on Tuesday to face Wishkah Valley, with the winner moving on and the loser out.
Lyle-Wishram certainly showed it was deserving of a regional berth, pushing the four-time state 1B champion Knights to the limit before falling.
“It was not our cleanest game,” Knights coach Brian Bosma said. “But we feel we have enough balance.”
Sunnyside Christian needed every bit of that balance Friday as leading scorer Alex Brouwer was limited to two points and 6-foot-7 post Brandon Broersma fouled out midway through the final period and his team leading by just five.
But Sunnyside Christian’s defense stepped up, with Darren Broersma collecting two big rebounds and a key blocked shot in the final two minutes, and the Knights made just enough free throws, 4 of 7, although two of the misses came on the front end of one-and-one opportunities. Drew Scheenstra and Martin finally sealed the tense contest as each made 1 of 2 foul shots in the final 10 seconds after Lyle-Wishram closed to 43-40.
“You’ve just got to keep fighting and be ready to step up,” said Darren Broersma, a 6-5 forward who finished with six points, four in the fourth quarter, and four rebounds, all in the second half.
For his part, Martin scored six of his nine points in the second half, including five in the third quarter to spark Sunnyside Christian after a four-point second quarter left the Knights trailing 23-19 at halftime.
“This (past) summer we played without Brandon and had a lot of tight games,” Brian Bosma said. “That allowed a lot of guys to get up shots under pressure, so they now know what it’s like. Everyone knows they can step up.”
Scheenstra finished with seven points and seven rebounds, and Brandon Broersma grabbed eight boards to go with six points.
Jonathan Von Ahn had 11 points and eight rebounds to lead Lyle-Wishram, which was held to 28-percent shooting (12 of 43) but hung close by hitting 12 of 15 free throws and limiting Sunnyside Christian to 37-percent shooting (19 of 51).
“They’re a tough team,” Brian Bosma said of the Cougars. “I really hope they advance (Tuesday).”
