At the Mat Classic this past weekend the WIAA "unveiled" 4 banners- for the purpose of the Mat Classic's 25 yr anniversay. These banners are not your normal banners you see at State events. They are, in my guesstimation 15' x 15', cloth, with many pictures collaged together. I would say they were very expensive!! The first banner that was unveiled was labeled something along the tune of 'Tournament Staff". There was Colbrese and his "Staff" life size waving to his admirers. "HOLY COW!!", wasn't my first thought. The next 2 banners actually did have something to do with the Mat Classic and less of a pat-on the-back for Colbrese and his boys. (I didn't stick around for the unveiling of the fourth banner.) The Dome was PACKED on Friday and well attended (my opinion) on Saturday. There were as many people there as any given football game I have seen at the Dome. I would like to know how much these banners cost. There has been some talk of the Mat Classic not making $$, well with expenses like that it's no wonder with (lack of) leadership like that.

they do not seem to think about money like the rest of us do. Hence the horrible travel cost some schools and parents have to pay to get to their kids regional games. their lack of financial responsability bleeds into all their decisions. Don't get me started, especially on the elgibility crew. Not a brain cell between all of them. Thanks for the forum.

Then you take a look at the 1B Girls basketball bracket and you see Yakama Nation and Republic (from the far NE corner of the State) coming all the way to Timberline HS in Lacey for a game. Why don't they just play the game in Moses Lake? Makes no $$$$$$ sense. Good job WIAA!!!!!

The highest-paid WIAA employee is Colbrese, who made $178,579 in 2008-09 after 6.5 percent increases in back-to-back years, according to the latest available WIAA tax records.

Heck, I'd do it for only a 2% increase!

They don't give a %$@* about the kids or schools at the B level otherwise there would be no regionals and 16 more teams would get to experiance the state tourney.

Oh, didn't you know that Regionals are part of the State Tournament. To prove it you can buy "WIAA State Tournament" sweatshirts and tee-shirts at Regionals.

Hey, at least they let the final 8 teams go play in the Spokane Arena and not in some High School like the Oregon small schools.

Could be worse that's for sure but I think that some of these people have lost site of what it's all about and that is an experience for the kids.
