The new cut off number for 1B could be at 82 and that could kick some schools up to 2B that are now playing 8-man football. WIAA wants 63 schools in 1B and 2B

Some AD's in the area are saying the WIAA might combine 1B & 2B into one class. But, they have been threatening that for years.

WIAA released a statement of which this was included: 1. Definition of a "School with Sports" - Historically, member schools that do not offer WIAA recognized sports have not been counted toward classifications. The WIAA Executive Board was asked to provide parameters as to what constitutes a "school with sports". After lengthy discussion, the Board decided that schools with a classification enrollment of 25 or less students (9-11 grade) will not be included in the classification process. However, those schools will be counted towards allocations to state playoffs should they meet team definitions on a sport by sport basis.
That changes things in the 1B drastically. In an updated (12/4/13) Classification List there are at least 11 schools that are 25 or less & another 12 that don't field football teams. Also included in the updated Classification List, 3 schools (DeSales, Willapa Valley, and Pe Ell) that were listed as 1B were moved 'up' the list to the 2B level.
There were two other decisions made this weekend - of which I don't have a handle on yet. The number of schools to be counted is reduced so that means fewer in each classification. Friday will tell, as the WIAA is suppose to release Their official reclassification count.

The final classification numbers won’t be determined until after the second opportunity for schools to declare any opt up intentions with WIAA before Jan. 7. After Jan. 7 schools will be locked into their enrollment number and corresponding classification. So, on Friday December 13, the WIAA is scheduled to release more info on which schools opted up.

According to my sources, Lummi will be the largest 1B school. But, things could still change by Jan. 7th Looks to be that 88 is the cutoff number. Many 1B schools have opted up to 2B and some 2B schools have opted up to 1A--but, this is not the final deal & we won't know for sure until Jan. 7th.
Soap Lake, Waterville, Republic and Odessa-Harrington all opted up to 2B

School board members in the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District recently voted to accept the WIAA classification of Naselle as Class 1B beginning next fall for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school sessions.
The WIAA is in the midst of its two-year reclassification of schools across the state, which concludes with the January deadline for challenging enrollment numbers and the choice of opting up.
The decision by the Naselle board means the Comets will leave Pacific 2B League, and will shift from 11-man to 8-man football.
Initial WIAA enrollment numbers showed Naselle with 175 students, but a counting error was found and the district was informed the school’s actual head count was 73 and placed it near the top end of the 1B classification.
According to current numbers, the new Class 2B will includes schools with enrollment between 81-187. In addition, Pacific 2B League rival Willapa Valley, with 73 students, and Pe Ell (70 students) of the Central 2B League may also choose to join Naselle in the 1B ranks.
One drawback is the lack of 1B football leagues in the Southwest District.
With the recent disbanding of the Coastal 1B League, the Comets would either play an independent schedule, or join the Columbia Valley League, which has one football team (Washington School for the Deaf).
