Evergreen Lutheran 28, Quilcene 8
The Evergreen Lutheran Eagles (5-0) got 3 rushing touchdowns from Jake Lawrence and endured monsoon weather conditions in the first half to beat the Quilcene Rangers (4-1) at Quilcene by a score of 28 to 8. Quilcene's senior QB Eli Harrison scored on an option keeper from 5 yards out on the game's first drive, then ran in the two point conversion to open the scoring. Then, as the rain and wind repeatedly belted both teams, a defensive struggle ensued, with neither team scoring until Lawrence scored on a run from 24 yards out with 55 seconds left before half time. The conversion pass failed and the Rangers took an 8-6 lead into the locker room at the half. The third quarter however belonged completely to the Eagles, as the rain and wind subsided, they were able to make some big plays against a strong Quilcene defensive unit. Jeffrey Parker hit Ryan Lorette from 18 yards out on their first possession of the 2nd half, and Lawrence followed with TD runs of 53 and 49 yards to give the Eagles a 28-8 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Eagles defense took over from there and the teams played a scoreless 4th quarter. The Eagles will next travel Elma, WA for a non-conference matchup against the Mary Knight Owls (0-5) on Saturday. The Rangers will host the Muckleshoot Tribal Kings (0-3) in a conference showdown that same day.
