That is a very good shot mark....Did that win the meet ? 6 feet better than the next guy in State 1B. I believe it did win the meet. He is really improving. All three of his throws were over 48'. His coach is optimistic he can reach 50'+ by the end of the season.

www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Division/Top.aspx?DivID=34864Zapien from Crescent will be at the Shelton meet this Saturday. He had to sit out the last 3 meets for discipline reasons, so hasn't had any means to improve his marks. He is a big kid going about 6'4" and 265 or so--with some good weather he will improve. He is looking forward to next football season. He should be a force at FB for the Loggers.

Mike now with improved glide due to hard work has been consistent over 44 in practice, just waiting for the right weather/competition alignment to hit something big. Might find it tomorrow as he will be at the Shelton Invite in both shot/discus, with Donovan Christie HJ and Devanie Christie Javelin. I'm hoping all three catch the big bug and go crazy tomorrow. Big meet for us at PT. Although we were not factored into the scoring because it was an Olympic League meet, I scored us today as: PA wins with 92, us next at 70, PT next with 52 and Bremerton with 36; so a good showing beating up on A and AAA teams. Our 4X100 was exceptional as we blew all away by 8 meters and moved to #2 in the state.

Zapian sounds like a huge kid, what grade is he in? Athletic.net has him listed as a senior. He should make it to state in a couple of events huh? Curleybear from Taholah has a pretty fast time in the 100, but is ineligible for state I think, because he tranfered back late. We have couple of kids with a shot to make it in other events, but we probably don't have enough firepower to place as a team at state.

Zapien is listed as a Senior but has another year left to get the credits to graduate, he will get another year of eligibility for football only.

I didn't even know he went. I talked to his coach Friday, and he said they weren't going to let him in. They must have reconsidered.

Yeah, well it used to be that you could take a number of kids to this meet, but now after meeting very restrictive entry marks, you pre-register, and then they evaluate all entries and offer spots to the top 16 kids per event only. It makes for a very tough field and a very tough meet to get in to. Slowest 4X100 to make the field was 45.4..........times we used to be able to run in the 90's with Square, Mock and Halberg and later with Kubalek and his mates but those days are long gone.....now we're lucky to get any single decent sprinter to run in the 11's.....must be slow parents having kids in Crescent these days.
And Shelton results weren't good, as all three athletes got a big case of the "being overwhelmed" and competed rather poorly. Only Mike in the discus, with two throws over 120 had a decent outing.
League championships on Wed., then sub-district advancing meet the next week. It all goes in a whirlwind now to the finish.

I'm told Cecil broke a meet record with his 50'6" toss. Congrats. Chitwhins may have had their best showing ever districts with srveral titles and I am pretty sure this is the biggest squad they have ever taken to state. The future looks bright just one senior in the group. Great job to coach Shawn Straka.

Cecil could break the 1B shot record at State with a 50' er.
Tri's went well. Boys winning by 59 points. Zapien was a stud, won all three. Will go into state ranked two in shot/discus and one in javelin. Joel Williams won both head to heads against Matt in the hurdles. They go in 1-2 in the 300H with a healthy lead over 3, 110 H will be a war with two guys in the high 16's, Joel in the low 17's, Matt middle 17's. Matt ran average and wil be capable of winning it at state. Joel is a stud and does what is necessary to win period. So a good battle ahead. Boys were fast in the 4X400, go into state ranked 2. Also fast in 4X100, just getting nipped by Neah; We go in ranked 3. 5 hundreths behind Neah. We will adjust some zones and beat them at state. Donovan Christie was a high jump stud winning at state leading 5-11. Derek Findley decided it was actually fun to compete and went mano-mano in triple jump, PR after PR until a 40 footer to put a stamp on his win. Goes into state ranked 2. To back it up we just had a great session of TJ - ing. He goes 6 jumps over 40. One in the 41-42 range. He will be ready to compete for a title. So I ran the heat sheets today with all the big players. We outscore Valley Christian 87-79 to 55 for Pomeroy, 37 for Columbia Hunters and on down the line. To win it we'll need all our guys to just go out and compete, go head to head and do what we know what to do. We've been pretty dialed in all season long re: competing for wins. I believe we have the kids right where we need them to be to win the title. Of course we can use some help from some of the other teams to jump in there and break up the potential distance sweep by Valley Chrs. Really anything that bumps Valley down the placement chart will help and of course we need to maintain where we rank. Should be fun and nerve racking at the same time. Zapien says 50 is coming, he will win the disc and he will go nuts with the spear. Hoping for big stuff.
One dropped baton or a bad exchange in the relay races could spell doom for any team to win it all.
