Great showing overall by your Loggers coach. Our coaches and athletes are working hard to get to the level where they can be in the conversation to place as a team.

Chitwins did well: Top 12 team scores 1-Valley Christian---85 2-Crescent---83 3-Pomeroy--61 4-Bickelton--55 5-Seton Catholic--47 6-Mansfield--35 7-Taholah--32 7-Shorewood Christian--32 9-Columbia Hunters--27 10-Troutlake/Glenwood--26 11-Neah Bay---24 12-Wellpinit--21
Crescent had a strong team this season, some kids on the team only do track, no other sport-- work at it all year long. Crescent has one of the best tracks in State for small schools. Lots of equipment to go along with it. Track is all weather and so are the run ways for LJ, TJ, HJ. Neah Bay probably has 4 faster kids in the 4 X 100 than the Loggers but because Crescent has a track to practice on for exchanges makes up for the slower kids (Crescent) in the relay handoffs. Zapien should have won The Javelin, he had a 172+ throw but fouled. Insead of 1st and 10 pts. he got only 4th and a tie with your kid from Taholah who got 3rd I believe. That would have won the Gold for Crescent right there. Christie thought that he was going to get 1st in the HJ at 6' 1", but the kid from Mansfield goes 6' 2" & takes 1st. Christie is only about 5' 8" tall, so he jumps 5" over his height. Not bad! Thats another 2 pts. right there. Coach Yount is a very good track coach. Gets the best out of his athletes and knows his stuff. Zapien will be back for football in the fall

Yeah, thanks Gary. The two points was tough to take as we had a bunch of opportunities to get those points. Certainly Mike's javelin as it cost us 5 points; Donovan didn't jump well in the LJ and ended 6th and only 3 points. A solid 19 footer would have done the trick but that wasn't to be. And of course the 3rd place in the 4X400 when a second would have won the title. And it was a team that we beat at Tri-districts. Derek's Triple J going 2 inches farther would have been 2 points more. Joel getting 3rd in the 110's was huge as he PR'ed by 6 tenths, but he lost out on second place by .02; that cost him 2 points. And since it was to a Valley Chr. kid, they would have traded points for a 4 point swing. And at the same time we performed PR's all over the place; like Donovan going 6-1 in the HJ to grab 2nd place and 8 pts. He could have easily topped out at 5-10 and settle for 5th and only 4 points. And our 4X100 was nice getting even with Neah for beating us at Tri's by toasting them by three meters on a great set of exchanges and a great anchor run by Matt Waldrip. So lots to be excited about, and yet......2 points. darrell Play by play to come when I get home.

JOYCE — Valley Christian of Spokane nipped Crescent by two points to win the 1B boys track and field championship at Eastern Washington University in Cheney on Saturday.
Valley Christian scored 85 points to the Loggers’ 83 in one of the most exciting Crescent performances ever.
Valley Christian was dominate in the distance races, going 1-2 in the 800 and 1600 and taking 1-4 in the 3200.
“This was a two-team race from the outset,” Crescent coach Darrell Yount said.
“We counter-punched with our own version of 1-2 with Matt Waldrip (42.28) and Joel Williams (42.67) going 1-2 in the 300 hurdles, and 3-4 in the 110’s, all in huge personal records.” Williams (16.60) & Waldrip (16.85).
In addition, Crescent dominated the throws with big Mike Zapien, who won the discus (126' 6"), was runner-up in shot put (46' 2") and fourth in javelin (151' 10". Zapien had one throw over 170' but fouled on the throw. That would have won the Javelin and the meet for Crescent.
Also, Donovan Christie grabbed second place in high jump with a personal best 6 foot, 1 inch, and Derek Findley captured third in triple jump at 40'. Crescent's 4 x 100 took 2nd (46.55) & the 4 x 400 gets 3rd (3:45.05)
“I’m proud of our kids,” Yount said. “What a monumental effort on their parts.”
Crescent’s Big Four
Four athletes scored 77 of Crescent’s 83 points.
Zapien had a team-high 23 points, outscoring 17 teams and having the fifth-highest personal total at state.
Waldrip amassed 18.5 points with his championship in the 300 hurdles, third in 110 hurdles, second in 4x100 relay and third in the 4x400 relay.
Williams was close behind with 17.5 points, with the same relay points as Waldrip, and runner-up in 300 hurdles and third in 110 hurdles.
Christie, meanwhile, collected 11 points with the second in high jump and sixth in long jump. Crescent gets two of the Big Four back next year.

From the Spokesman Review African helps Valley Christian win State 1B Gold Valley Christian’s Richard Nyambura travelled a long road to reach the 1B 1,600-meter finals. Nyambura moved from an orphanage on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, one year ago to live with Steve and Brenda Day while he attended West Valley as an exchange student. “I had to go back to Kenya, but I was able to obtain another visa and come back for my senior year,” Nyambura said. “I believe I am running better this year, but I did not run my best race in the finals.” Nyambura won the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes, 41.34 seconds, with teammate and defending champion Grant Marchant right behind at 4:42.41. www.spokesman.com/stories/2012/may/27/freeman-sprinters-speed-to-wins-vc-takes-1b-boys/
