Colter McKeown ran for 317 yards and scored seven touchdowns to lead host Touchet to a 72-38 victory over Sunnyside Christian in the Southeast 1B opener for both teams Friday. McKeown, a senior, carried the ball 20 times, scoring touchdowns of 1, 45, 14, 23, 52 and 55 yards. He also caught a 59-yard scoring pass from Carlos Rincon. “He is a fun kid to watch,” Touchet coach Gary Dorman said of McKeown. “He’s only 5-9, about 160 pounds. He is fast. He hides well behind the line and then just takes off.” Rincon also ran for three touchdowns, while Leo Garcia ran for 165 yards and one score.v The Knights favored the passing game as quarterback Justin Faber threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns — three to Nate Scheenstra. The Indians (2-0, 1-0) led 48-30 at halftime, then scored 24 points in the second half while holding the Knights to eight. “In eight-man football, three touchdowns is not a lot,” Dorman said of the halftime score. “We finally started playing defense in the second half. In eight-man, you can’t take a relaxed breath until the clock runs out. “Sunnyside Christian has a good team. They might surprise some people this year.” Sunnyside Christian 6 24 0 8 — 38 Touchet 20 28 12 12 — 72 SCORING PLAYS T—Colter McKeown 1 run (run failed) S—Nate Scheenstra 80 pass from Justin Faber (run failed) T—Leo Garcia 40 run (Carlos Rincon run) T—Rincon 25 run (run failed) T—McKeown 45 run (Mikael Butler pass from Ben Ortiz) S—Luke Wavrin 83 pass from Faber (Scheenstra pass from Faber) T—Rincon 26 run (run failed) S—Scheenstra 35 pass from Faber (Faber run) T—McKeown 59 pass from Rincon (pass failed) T—McKeown 14 run (Garcia run) S—Scheenstra 73 pass from Faber (Cooper Liefke run) T—McKeown 23 run (run failed) T—McKeown 52 run (run failed) S—Liefke 1 run (Liefke run) T—McKeown 55 run (run failed) T—Rincon 21 run (run failed) STATISTICS RUSHING—S, Wavrin 9-6, Faber 10-28, Liefke 8-19, Clereringa 1-0. Peninsula Daily News Report PREP FOOTBALL UPDATE: Neah Bay beats Lummi 38-26
NEAH BAY — Neah Bay outscored Lummi 20-6 in the second half to beat the Blackhawks 38-26 on Friday night.
After going into halftime down 20-18, the top-ranked Red Devils quickly took the lead for good when Cameron Buzzell hooked up with Chris Martinez for a 61-yard touchdown pass.
Two plays later, John Reamer tipped a pass by Lummi's Hank Hoskins that was caught by Tommy Tyler and returned 40 yards for another Neah Bay touchdown.
The Red Devils added a 70-yard touchdown run by Elisha Winck and stopped fourth-ranked Lummi on a few fourth-down plays in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.
Neah Bay's (2-0) win was one of many wins by North Olympic Peninsula teams Friday.

Mistakes and bad luck cost the Lummi football team again, as the Blackhawks dropped their sixth straight game to Neah Bay dating back to 2011, this time by a 38-26 count. Lummi (0-2) actually led 20-18 at the half, but on the first play from scrimmage, Neah Bay got the lead back with a 60-yard touchdown pass. Less than two minutes later, a tipped Lummi pass resulted in an interception, which the Red Devils returned 40 yards for another score. “We gave up some big plays,” Blackhawks coach Jim Sandusky said in a phone interview. “That tip ball interception for a touchdown really hurt. We did a little bit of what we did last week, where we gave up too many real big plays. Part of it was some broken coverage and some broken assignments.” After spotting Neah Bay the first two touchdowns of the game, Hank Hoskins scored on a 2-yard run to cut the Blackhawks’ deficit to 12-6 after the first. A 38-yard run put the Red Devils back up 18-6, but Hoskins again scored for a yard out before hitting Devin Cooper on a 51-yard TD strike to give Lummi the halftime lead. But the two Red Devil scores early in the second put Lummi in a hole. Even though Hoskins scored his third TD of the night, a 72-yard Neah Bay run put the game away. “It was a tough night for us throwing the ball,” Sandusky said. “Our line didn’t protect real well, and our quarterbacks didn’t have time to throw the ball.” Hoskins finished with 231 yards passing and led the team with 112 yards and 17 carries. Cooper had four catches for 89 yards and Willie Jones had four for 62, while Dino Williams logged five for 66. Lummi next opens at home with a game against Seattle Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 19.
